Begin with the Agora and archaeological collections in central İzmir. Spend the second and third days around Ephesus and Selçuk, including the museum and one sacred site.
Use a separate northbound day for Pergamon’s Acropolis and Asklepion, or stay overnight in Bergama to avoid compressing both. Reserve later days for Teos, Metropolis or another smaller site selected according to current access.
Keep one day free for rest, weather or deeper museum time. Archaeological travel is physically demanding, and understanding improves when every day is not overloaded.
Days one and two: Smyrna
Use central İzmir to understand the region before the major excursions. The Agora, Kadifekale viewpoints and archaeological displays help explain how settlement moved and changed around the gulf. Combine them geographically and allow time for Kemeraltı rather than treating the market as a corridor.
Days three and four: Ephesus and Selçuk
Spend one day at Ephesus with the Terrace Houses when open. Use the next for Ephesus Museum, Basilica of St John, Ayasuluk Hill and, if energy permits, the Temple of Artemis. An overnight stay in Selçuk creates an early start and avoids two long returns to central İzmir.
Days five and six: Pergamon
Travel north for the Acropolis and the modern town of Bergama. Give the Asklepion its own attention; it is not simply an appendix to the hilltop city. Staying overnight allows the museum, Red Hall and market streets to fit without racing the return traffic.
Day seven: choose depth
Select one smaller site whose current access has been confirmed, or return to a museum that provides context for what you saw. Metropolis, Teos and other landscapes each lead in different geographical directions, so the choice should match your departure plan.
Travel conditions
Ancient surfaces are uneven and exposed. Summer heat can make an apparently moderate itinerary exhausting. Keep water, shade breaks and one flexible half-day in the plan, and verify official opening information before each excursion.
